Trust The Sovereign Sameness of God
Hebrews 13:8
Cokiesha Bailey Robinson

World population research tells us that at the time of King David there were 150 million people on earth.  By 2025 the population will be some 7.8 billion. Change is always around us.  If you don’t believe life changes, just look in the closet. There are some clothes that are now out of style. There are some clothes that we just don’t fit anymore. Look in the photo albums of life. Notice that hair styles have changed, sizes have changed, residences have changed, relationships have changed. Change is inevitable. We change our mind on politics, platforms and people every day. The good news for us, however, is that despite a changing world and changing physical appearance, changing health and changing perspectives, our God is ever faithful! He never changes. His character is consistent.

When was the last time that we paused to praise God for His sameness? The writer of Hebrews said, in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus the same, yesterday, today and forevermore.” That is of great comfort because there are many false doctrines and watered done theological beliefs that suggest that we can buy happiness or that we can prosper based upon our own performance and thought life. Our lives are sometimes up and sometimes down.  Our view of life is sometimes sharp and sometimes cloudy. We cannot trust our own feelings because they are fickle. We cannot trust our logic because ‘our ways are not God’s ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts.’ We must stand on God’s words and not our human emotions. We denounce the “name it and claim it’ theology because we as believers cannot name what God has not claimed. However, we can hold on to His promises found in His Word.  Although life moves fast and seasons change rapidly, we can rest assure that God’s word is true and is constant. He is our stability in unstable times. He is our anchor and Rock that keeps us steady. What is causing you anxiety right now? What world changes scare you? What physical or relational changes make you feel uneasy? Are you terrified of the future because you can’t control it?  Know that we can ‘trust our unknown future in the hands of an all knowing God.’

Keep calm! “Jesus the same, yesterday, today and forever more.”
